The Dalrod Islanders were facing the London Racers for the first time this season at Alexandra Palace.
The Islanders missed a few chances in the first few minutes, however it would be the Racers that took the lead after a goal from Stuart Appleby and after just 6 minutes the Islanders found themselves 2 goals behind after Jack Lee picked up a rebound from an initial shot by Daniel Clayton. Making 26 saves in the first period former Islander Steve Nightingale was on top form in goal and the period ended 2-0 in favour of the Racers.
The Racers only managed 3 shots in the second period as the Islanders continued to dominate play and they finally got on the board after the 30 minute mark. Great build up play by Shaun Yardley and a crisp pass from Brad Moore found Clint Herring in the slot who buried it, cutting the deficit to one goal. There were no further goals in the second period however after a tripping penalty for Matt Brown with 15 seconds left of the period would give the islanders a powerplay to start off the third period with.
Capitalising on the powerplay would have been ideal for the Islanders and they did just that. A beautiful tic tac toe goal as Moore found Nathan Pollard who found his brother Conor wide open on the back door, he couldn't and didn't miss, levelling the score with 19 minutes left to play! At this point there was only going to be one winner, Islanders had all of the momentum and the Racers had ran out of steam. With less than 7 minutes remaining, Nathan Pollard broke the Racers hearts after a faceoff win from Brad Moore. Pollard found himself on a breakaway and made no mistake in beautifully deking Nightingale and securing 2 points for the Islanders, extending their unbeaten streak to 5 games.
