Islanders Shut Out The Lions In Their Final Meet

The Islanders went into the game missing Craig Wallis and Brad Moore. However they were boosted by the return of James White who hadn't featured in an Islanders game in 2016 so far.

The match started off with the Islanders on top, but after 5 minutes the talking point of the match happened. After a coming together between James White and Lions player James Joseph, Joseph headbutted White who was clearly not interested in fighting him but Connor Stokes flew in to protect White and landed some punches to Joseph that put him on the deck. Joseph was chucked out for the headbutt and I expect him to be banned for several games, Stokes also received a match penalty for roughing. The rest of the period was relatively quiet until 16:32 when a great pass from Nathan Pollard found Yardley wide open on the back door to shoot in the Islanders opener and the only goal of the period. Tipple in the lions net made an impressive 27 saves in the first period.

It took the Islanders only 4 minutes in the 2nd period to get their 2nd of the game, a miss communication between the Lions players left N.Pollard on a breakaway and he cooly shot the puck through James Tipples five-hole to double the islanders lead. A couple of powerplay chances for the Islanders which they were unable to take advantage of. And the period ended with islanders 2-0 up.

Islanders knew they needed to strike early to get rid of any chances of a Lions comeback. And that is exactly what happened, and after just over 4 minutes of the period James Pentecost found Nathan Pollard in the slot who sent a bullet into the top right corner leaving Tipple with no chance. And with 5 minutes left of the game Clint Herring left the penalty box and received a great pass from J.Brammall and nicely finished a breakaway through Tipples five-hole to finish the scoring in the game at 4-0. There was time however for Jack Sansby to get into a fight with Chris Fox and the Islanders to vent their frustrations at the referee receiving 2 misconduct penalties. Dan Lane finished with a 42 shot shutout, Tipple for the Lions finished on an impressive 69 saves.

Man Of The Match for the Islanders went to Nathan Pollard.
