The Peterborough Dalrod Islanders are delighted to announce their coaching team for the 2016/17 season.
Stevie Johnson will be returning for his 3rd season with the Islanders and will be joined again by assistant coach Steve Wren. Shaun Yardley has also joined the Coaching team whilst continuing to play.
Coach Johnson is already looking forward to the season “It’s my 20th Year coaching in Peterborough and it is also the Islanders 20th Year. I am really forward to giving it another go and winning some silverware this season. The amount of effort Dave and Jo Lane put into the Islanders is amazing and I want to help them build on the success we have already had. We were so close to silverware last year being runners up in the League and Cup and losing on penalty shots in the semi-finals of the Playoffs and it would be great to go one better this season.” Johnson also added “We had 3 players progress to the next step of their careers in the EPL which is ultimately the Islanders goal, Islanders have a great bunch of guys and I am looking forward to another rollercoaster season.”
Steve Wren is returning to his assistant coach role, also in his 3rd year coaching with the Islanders and Stevie is looking forward to his return “Wrenny has been doing a great job working with the defenseman, he is always willing to learn and is a very good coach that has a bright future at this level” Wrenny is relishing the challenge and is hoping for silverware this season ”It is a pleasure to be back as part of the Islanders coaching team to build on the successes of last season. This season will be tough, no doubt about that as there are other teams building for the coming season as well. I do however believe that with the core group of players we have, we can match any other team in the league and potentially bring home some silverware at the end of the season. The Islanders is a great organisation to be a part of and hopefully this season, the Islanders 20th anniversary season, will take us forward once again.”
Lacing his skates up for another season and joining the coaching team is experienced forward Shaun Yardley. Yards was a key player for the Islanders last season playing as a defenseman, with his style of play and smart hockey brain this was an easy transition for him, posting the 2nd most assists in the league (28) and also adding 9 goals as well as 7 points in the cup. He has played over 400 games in the EPL and is a natural leader. He is thrilled to be re-signing for the Islanders this season “Very happy to be back with the islanders for a 3rd season. I'm looking forward to getting back out there and this season hopefully winning some trophies. Last season left a sour taste not winning anything, I'm looking forward to meeting up with all the boys again and kicking a season off with a bang!” Stevie is looking forward to yards joining him on the coaching team “Big return for Yards and he will be helping on the coaching team also which will be a massive benefit for us this season. Yards was going to hang them up but luckily for us he has said he will give another year. Cool head and great vision from the master”
Islanders will be announcing their first 3 signings this Sunday.
