A short benched Islanders team travelled to Invicta to face the Mustangs and they got off to the ideal start when Nathan Pollard finished off a breakaway with a backhander into the roof of the net. However a penalty called on Rob Mcdonald gave the Mustangs a chance to tie the game, which they took full advantage of and the period ended 1-1.
Islanders were not happy with their first period and knew they had to come out flying if they wanted to win the match. Bradley Moore started the 2nd period scoring off with a tap in on the back door after good work from Jowett and C.Pollard. Just over a minute later Pentecost was open in the slot and after a nice pass from N.Pollard he shot the puck through the goalies five hole. The islanders really were in full flow now and it didn't take long for Jowett to grab a goal of his own after deflecting in a shot from Callum Worthington-Evans. Pentecost got his 2nd of the night finishing off a 2on1 after a nice pass from Moore. 4 minutes later he completed his hat-trick on the powerplay; after some good link up play between Moore and N.Pollard Pentecost stuck a rebound home to celebrate his first 3 goal game of the season. There was time for one more goal to finish the period, and as the islanders were dominating it was no surprise it was in their favour. and no surprise it was in the Islanders favour, N.Pollard put a shot over the goalies shoulder from a tight angle to end the period at 7-1.
Biggest game of the season so far for the Islanders, who went into this game needing at least a point against the Warriors to keep their title hopes alive. It was going to be tough as they were missing key players, Stokes, Wallis, Herring, Long and Turley all missing out for the islanders.
The first period was stronger for the Warriors out shooting the islanders 20-13, and finished the first period with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Oliver Baldock and Brandon Ayliffe.
Second period was a different story, Islanders came out flying searching for their first goal and dominated large parts of the period to put Phillips in the Warriors net under immense pressure but the Warriors man of the match stood tall and made some huge saves. No goals in the 2nd period for either team but the Islanders had a lot of positives to take into the 3rd period.
The Islanders started the 3rd as they finished the 2nd with lots of pressure on the Warriors net, however it was Chelmsford who would strike first in the period, Baldock found some space in the slot and put the puck into the top corner to open up a 3 goal lead. The Islanders were given a lifeline 30 seconds later with a powerplay. However it was the Warriors who would score short handed with Ayliffe finishing off a breakaway. Islanders did the find the net for the first time on the powerplay after James White tipped in a shot from the point. At 4-1 the Islanders knew they needed to get a goal quickly to stay in the game, this eventually was their downfall. Over commitment in the offensive zone led to Warriors striking twice more on odd man rushes through Sylvester and Lay. The Islanders got two quick goals themselves, after a great no look pass from N.Pollard, his brother Conor had no problem with deking Phillips and a well placed shot from the point from Bradley Moore gave them a glimmer of hope. Warriors sealed the game with just over five minutes to go, Sylvester deked Lane and scored the Warriors 7th.
