DALROD Peterborough Islanders 16 - 0 Lee Valley Lions
Last weekend the Islanders suffered a brutal defeat at the hands of Chelmsford, however they bounced back well at home this week.
Lee Valley turned up with just nine out skaters and realised they were on for a tough night very early on. Once the Islanders had settled into the game, the goals began to flood in. Clint Herring opened scoring within the first 5 minutes and both Shaun Yardley and James Pentecost found the back of the net less then a minute afterwards.
Tipple (Lee Valley’s goaltender) faced a barrage of Islanders pressure and was broken again twice more in the period. Kenny Bavin added another goal to his league total and Josh Turley scrambled home another following some excellent play from Billy Porter in the corner.
A short benched Lee Valley side icing just 11 skaters and 2 netminders would always have a tough time against the DALROD Peterborough Islanders who are, it’s fair to say, on a roll at the moment. The first period started out even enough until Brad Moore picked up the puck during a shaft change to go coast to coast for the Islanders 1st on a powerplay less than 5 minutes into the game. Just over aminute later, former Flyers captain Kenny Bavin picked up the first of his pair after work from Clint Herring and Callum Worthington-Evans. The first continued as a goal fest with Conor Pollard, Shaun Yardley, (twice), Connor Stokes all got on the score sheet. One interesting penalty, (unfortunately called on the Islanders), saw Jon Braammall called for spraying the goalie, (Goalie interference), for the first time this season. This didn’t prevent the Islanders leading 6-0 at the end of the first.
For the second period started with the Islanders on the Penalty kill with Billy Porter sitting 2 for holding right at the end of the first, and a delay of game call made against the Islanders at the beginning of the 2nd saw the Islanders killing a 5 on 3 surge from the Lions.
