The Mustangs arrival to Peterborough was delayed by traffic and the start of the game was pushed back by about an hour. This delay seemed to affect both teams and meant a slightly slower passage of play at the beginning of the game.
The Islanders had the upper hand in the first few minutes but were unable to capitalise until the 10th minute, when a beautifully threaded pass by Brad Moore found Pentecost's tape and a clean finish lit the light for the Islanders powerplay. Unfortunately this was short-lived as the Islanders found themselves once again frequenting the penalty box. Battling hard through penalties, including 3 minutes of 5-on-3, was little consolation, as seconds after they returned to full strength Invicta slipped one past some tired Islander legs. The first period ended 1-1.
Chelmsford Warriors – 6
DALROD Peterborough Islanders – 5
The Islanders continued their cup quest on Saturday when they travelled to Chelmsford, hoping to build on their strong start the week before.
However, things started to unravel quickly for the Isles when Callum Worthington-Evans picked up a tripping call in the first minute and the Warriors capitalised with a power play goal.
